Brent Carmichael, ARTE Consulting President and national consultant on youth violence was born in East Moline, Illinois. Raised in a very diverse neighborhood (WATERTOWN), he was very active in all sports (thanks to his mentor John Perez). His goal to become a basketball player for his high school team showed in determination to make the varsity team (even after being cut from the team as a sophomore). His willingness to participate in wrestling as a sophomore, sit the bench on the basketball team as a junior was fulfilled as being named the most valuable player as a senior. He went on the play two years at a junior college, then on to Division I University of Northern Iowa where he was all conference two years and leader in steals with (180) in two years. After college he went on to play professional for four years in (CBA) Quad Cities, Illinois ,Rockford, Illinois, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and in the Philippines (overseas). After basketball Brent accepted full guardianship of his son with a disability (Autism). As a single parent he began his advocacy journey working for the City of Rockford, Illinois head start program and the City of Rockford’s Mayor’s Office as a drug prevention coordinator. He worked directly with gang members and students negatively influenced by gang and street violence. His passion to assist his son, gang members and youth negatively influenced by street culture necessitated his desire to prepare parents, teachers, law enforcement and communities with his unique perspective and solutions to decrease violence in schools and communities with real-life solutions.

His self motivated challenge to share his proactive presentations on a larger scale, has shown success after working directly with many National organizations including; the National Baptist Convention, National Youth Diversity, National Gang Crime Commission and the National Blacks In Government. He has been able to effectively present workshops to hundreds of colleagues in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Denver, Detroit, Washington D.C and Chicago. For the past 25 years, Brent has shared his hands on experiences, unique expertise and up to date relationship techniques with school districts, law enforcement, parents, churches, and communities. His presentations have been used as educational tools at several universities in their teaching programs and utilized by national head start staff and parents to build relationships with low- income families. Als, law enforcement/emergency personnel in various states to gain a clearer understanding of students and adults with disabilities (primarily Autism Spectrum Disorders).
